Who runs GrabYTthumb

GrabYTthumb is run by Rob Falconer through The AI Barn, which builds and maintains a number of small, free websites and web tools. The site is maintained from the UK, and that's where our copyright guidance starts from, though we also explain the US position where it differs.

GrabYTthumb is independent. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC, and we use the name only to describe what our tools work with.

What the site is for

The thumbnail downloader started as a simple utility: paste a link, get the image. Simple versions of that tool share a frustrating flaw. They show a grey placeholder whenever YouTube hasn't made a particular size, and leave you guessing. We rebuilt ours in October 2026 to check what YouTube actually returns and say clearly when a size doesn't exist.

Alongside the tools we publish guides on the questions that come up around thumbnails and uploads: what size to make a thumbnail, why the high-resolution version is sometimes missing, whether you can reuse one, and how to get chapters working.

How the site is funded

GrabYTthumb is free to use and is supported by Google AdSense advertising. Advertisers don't influence what we write.
