Privacy Policy
What information is collected when you use GrabYTthumb, by whom, and the choices you have.
This policy explains how personal information is handled on grabytthumb.com ("the site", "we", "us"). We've tried to keep it short and plain.
1. Who is responsible
The site is run by Rob Falconer (The AI Barn), 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. For data protection purposes, we are the controller of the personal data described here, except where we say a third party (such as Google) is responsible for its own processing. Contact: hello@theaibarn.com.
2. Our tools don't collect what you type
The thumbnail downloader, chapter checker, description builder and transcript converter run entirely in your browser. The links, text and transcripts you enter are not sent to our server and aren't stored by us. The thumbnail downloader may add the video ID to the page address (for example ?v=…) so you can bookmark or share the result. That stays in your own browser history unless you share it.
3. Images loaded from YouTube
When you use the thumbnail downloader, your browser requests the thumbnail images directly from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com), which is operated by Google. Google receives the information any website receives when your browser fetches a file from it, such as your IP address, browser type and the image requested. Google's handling of that data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
4. Advertising: Google AdSense
We show advertising through Google AdSense to pay for the site. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads on this site. These can include ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites (personalised ads), where you've allowed this. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and/or other sites on the internet.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- You can manage personalised advertising from Google, or turn it off, at My Ad Center.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info (mainly US) and youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
Google acts as an independent controller for the personal data it processes for advertising. Its legal bases and retention periods are set out in Google's privacy policy.
5. Cookies and your consent
If you visit from the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you'll see a consent message provided through Google's consent management platform before advertising cookies are used for personalised ads. You can accept, reject or manage your choices. If you don't consent, Google may still show non-personalised or limited ads, which can use cookies or similar technologies for purposes such as frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention, as described in Google's policies. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the privacy and cookie settings link that the consent message provides on our pages.
We don't set any cookies of our own for analytics or tracking. The site doesn't currently use Google Analytics or any other analytics service. If we add one, we'll update this policy first.
6. Server logs
Like almost every website, our web host keeps standard server logs of requests to the site: IP address, date and time, page requested, referring page and browser details. These are used to keep the site running and secure, for example to detect abuse or attacks. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website. Logs are kept for a limited period set by our hosting provider and aren't used to identify individual visitors.
7. If you email us
If you email us, we use your email address and message to reply and to deal with your request, based on our legitimate interest in responding to you. We keep correspondence only as long as needed for that purpose and any follow-up, and we don't add you to any mailing list.
8. Fonts and other resources
The site's fonts, styles and scripts are served from our own server, apart from the Google AdSense script and the YouTube thumbnail images described above.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you have the right to ask for access to your personal data, and to ask us to correct, delete or restrict it. You can also object to our processing and, in some cases, ask for data portability. Because our tools don't collect what you type, we usually hold very little or nothing about visitors, but we'll always answer a request. Email hello@theaibarn.com with "Privacy" in the subject line. For data that Google holds, use Google's own tools or contact Google directly.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
10. Children
The site is a general-audience tool site and isn't aimed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if the way we handle data changes, for example if we add an analytics service, and change the "Last updated" date at the top.
